Kristi Sutter, M.S., LMFT For Our Clients

Kristi-Sutter-TherapistI am a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and Certified Alcohol and Drug Specialist. I completed a Master of Science degree in Marriage and Family Therapy in 1990 and received licensure in Florida and Georgia in 1994. In the beginning of my career I was a therapist on an addictions unit in a psychiatric hospital and from there, I went to a general psychiatric hospital doing individual and group therapy. During these early years, I focused on the treatment of Eating Disorders; however, my main interest has always been in relationships. I continually experienced the impact relationships had on the people I worked with and began focusing on family and couples therapy. I watched and participated in the healing process of addictions, depression, trauma, and all sorts of couples and family conflict. I was drawn particularly to work with couples, and in 2005 I began focusing on infidelity. Currently the majority of my practice is with couples, and specifically couples experiencing infidelity. I have been in private practice in North Atlanta since 2003.

My approach with my clients is direct and compassionate. I understand most of us have time and money concerns and I will help you make changes as quickly as possible. Some situations will take more time than others, but therapy does not have to go on for years, unless you want it to. My goal as your therapist is to facilitate the healing process in yourself, and your relationships. I do this by developing an authentic relationship with you where you can be honest about what’s going on, talk about it and come up with better ways of being yourself, and deepen the connection and intimacy in your relationships. I believe in salvaging relationships whenever possible and not walking away until you have tried everything you know how to try. Sometimes divorce is the best option, and in that case, I will help you through the grieving process with the goal being to let go of anger and bitterness and move forward in a peaceful life.

In addition to my training and experience as a Marriage and Family Therapist, I have been a Georgia Certified Family Mediator and a Florida Supreme Court Certified Family Mediator. I no longer do mediation, but I find the training and experience to be very valuable. I continually use and pass on the conflict resolution skills I’ve learned to families and couples. Mediation in most cases is part of the divorce process, and I can talk about this with clients and help with the emotional preparation.

Overall, I encourage my clients to take responsibility for their lives and quality of their relationships. This involves not just your mental health, but also your physical and spiritual health. How we take care of our bodies effects how we feel, and therefore how we are in relationships. What we make important in our lives will decide how we live our lives. Taking good care of your self is the foundation of better relationships.

I have many things I enjoy. At the top of my list is spending time with family and friends, running, golf, reading, and I really enjoy my work.
